The system known as MicroVAX was released in July of 1982 and it first beganshipping in May 1985. The MicroVAX II was not very similar to preceding VAX systems.
It was more affordable and it was much faster. In fact, the MicroVax II processor speed was as fast as the VAX-11/780.
